Fisker’s Ocean Electric SUV dog paddles move closer to production

    Fisker claims a zero to 60 mph time of just 3.6 seconds for the Extreme and 3.9 seconds for the Ultra.     Solar panels on the roof of the SUV capture energy from the sun to restore battery life. Fisker claims this can generate around 1,500 miles of range per year for drivers living in sunny climates such as Southern California. The roof can also be opened to serve as a traditional panoramic sunroof. Another novelty is California Mode, which opens all windows and the sunroof and lowers the rear hatch window at the push of a button. The power window line includes a set of small rear windows that also retract, a feature Fisker calls Doggie Power Windows, apparently because they’re perfectly sized for doggies to stick their heads through.

    Inside, the cabin is covered in scavenged materials like fishing nets, used fabric, and old rubber, but you’d never know it. The seats are comfortable and stylish, and the Ocean’s headliner resembles the suede headliner popular on modern luxury cars. Passenger space appears to be on par with other modern compact crossovers, but cargo space is not as generous as you would find in a Honda CR-V.

    Technology runs through the entire design and includes niceties such as a suite of driver assistance features and an optional 16-speaker stereo. But the main dish In the Ocean’s cabin sits the large 17.1-inch central infotainment screen that can swivel from its default vertically-oriented position to a horizontal layout at the push of a button. It is designed to provide users with a high definition screen on which to spend time watching shows and movies while waiting for the vehicle to charge.     The prototype still needs a few finishing touches before it’s ready for mass production – there are rough-edged bits of plastic visible inside the cabin, for example – but Fisker says that’s representative of this. that owners will receive on delivery, which should begin next year. The company said it will adopt a direct selling model similar to rivals Tesla and Rivian and said the Ocean will be available for sale nationwide and globally.
