Leeds’ Christmas winter wonderland planned with ice rink, igloo bar, market and return from Thor’s teepee
The holiday season in Leeds will take a new twist this year with a Christmas-themed family trail at key locations across the city.
Leeds City Council announced today (Monday) that Leeds Winter Favorites will launch next month.
It comes as the German Christmas market has been canceled for the second year in a row due to the uncertainty of Covid-19.

However, in order to allow the festival season to continue, the Authority and Visit Leeds will be hosting a new experience in the city.
This will include a winter wonderland with an ice rink, Igloo bar and pop-up market stalls in Millenium Square starting November 26. A traditional carousel will be in Cookridge Street and there will be a brand new teepee on Briggate.
The authority said THOR’s tipi will also return to Victoria Gardens from November 19 with the Wheel of Light.
New additions to the city’s festivities complete the famous City Square Christmas tree, the “Dear Leeds” lighting installation on Briggate, Rock n Roll Panto at City Varieties and Lotherton’s Christmas Experience.
A spokesperson for the authority added that Lord Whitney’s immersive festive experience Upon a Christmas Wish will also make a long-awaited return to Harewood House after being postponed last year.
Leeds City Council Deputy Head and Executive Member of Economy, Culture and Education Cllr Jonathan Pryor said: Appreciate.
“After a watered down holiday season in 2020, we are delighted to be able to bring more activities and events to Leeds this Christmas. Leeds winter favorites will ensure that everyone who visits the city this holiday season will leave with a festive feeling that is sure to last until the new year.
“We encourage residents and visitors to find out what’s on offer in Leeds this Christmas and find their winter favorite.”
