Musician Daniel Pitout Bought a Home in Hollywood Hills – DIRT

Daniel Pitout first achieved nominal success as the drummer of the Canadian punk-grunge trio Nü Sensae. But the South African-born singer-songwriter enjoyed a new level of acclaim about three years ago, when he decided to transform himself into a masked fringe gay indie country crooner known as ‘Orville Peck. Since then, he’s topped the independent charts with his debut album ‘Pony’ and its follow-up, ‘Show Pony’, features the duet ‘Legends Never Die’ with Shania Twain; he is also set to perform at the Coachella and Stagecoach festivals this year.

With such success naturally comes the need for improved living conditions, and so Pitout doled out nearly $2 million for rustic, wooded digs in the lower Beachwood Canyon neighborhood of Hollywood Hills. Originally built in the 1940s, the place even has a celebrity pedigree. For a few brief months in 2005, the property was owned by Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante. It then moved on to model Josie Moran, who sold the place to Meryl Streep’s daughter, Mamie Gummer, who in turn sold it to Jack Nicholson’s daughter, Jennifer, for nearly $1.7 million. dollars in 2020. It was Nicholson who recently flipped the house over to Pitout at a modest profit.

Perched on steep, heavily treed terrain along the slopes that border Beachwood Canyon, the structure is surrounded by a treetop terrace and secluded above the street, just minutes from Beachwood Market and Franklin Village. There are three bedrooms and an equal number of bathrooms in approximately 1,700 square feet, plus an attic-style finished bedroom converted into a loft with a soaking tub that could easily accommodate a creative space or recording studio. Attractive wood-framed windows and doors, terra-cotta tile and hardwood floors, exposed beam ceilings, salvaged finishes and skylights are found throughout the updated home.

A living room featuring a freestanding woodstove and windows overlooking the canyon stands out in particular, along with a farmhouse-style kitchen outfitted with copper countertops, double sinks, an antique O’Keefe and Merritt stove and an adjacent breakfast nook. There is also a master suite including a yoga room and a luxury bath with a polished concrete shower; and outside, the compact 0.16 acre lot houses a built-in sitting area surrounding a stone fire pit, an outdoor kitchen and an alfresco dining area.
