Scandic opens a grand new hotel in a historic printing house in Helsinki

Today, Scandic Helsinki Hub opened its doors in the Finnish capital. Located in downtown Helsinki, the hotel is housed in an impressive 1920s printing house that has been converted into a grand hotel with 352 rooms. Along with unique loft-style rooms, the hotel offers inspiring spaces for events, meetings and co-working, as well as a trattoria and bars.

Scandic Helsinki Hub is strategically located at the crossroads of downtown Helsinki and charming southern Helsinki. Remnants of the old printing press have been elegantly preserved throughout the design of the entire building, and guests can choose accommodations that offer a variety of special features and unique experiences, including rooms with a private terrace overlooking the courtyard hotel and junior suites with large corner windows. . Rooms facing Annankatu Street also offer a view of the green grounds of the Old Church.

– We are delighted to open a new hotel at a time when we are seeing good development in the Helsinki region where the level of activity has returned to our hotels. Scandic Helsinki Hub is a wonderful addition to our existing portfolio of hotels in the capital, as domestic and intra-Nordic business and leisure travelers return to our hotels, says Aki Käyhkö, Head of Scandic Hotels Finland.

Scandic Helsinki Hub offers flexible meeting, event and coworking spaces. For larger gatherings there is also a tiered space with a 16 meter LED wall for larger and more extravagant events.

– We want to be a hub where people from all over the world can meet and spark new ideas. We are opening with an international team of nearly 100 people and I am extremely happy to welcome guests from all over to this fantastic hotel and extraordinary building,” said Outi Hanhijärvi, Managing Director of Scandic Helsinki Hub.

The hotel’s restaurant, Trattoria II Centro, offers Italian cuisine as well as a selection of vegan dishes prepared with authentic Italian ingredients. You can enjoy these delights on the hotel’s glass-enclosed terrace or at the bar which opens onto the courtyard.

As with all Scandic hotels, sustainability is central to the Scandic Helsinki Hub. The hotel is eco-labeled according to the rigorous new criteria of the Nordic Swan Ecolabel where, among other things, eco-labeled products and chemicals and 100% renewable electricity, the absence of single-use disposable products, reduced water consumption, a climate-friendly menu and a reduced diet. the waste served as the basis for certification.

The principles of sustainable development were the starting point for the entire hotel planning process. Many original elements have been retained in the building and recycled materials such as plastic bottles and textile waste for furniture and carpets have been favored when sourcing.
