LOVESPACE’s moving experts have put together their advice to help homeowners move into a new property.

In 2021, around 1.2 million residential property transactions were made in the UK, according to data from Statista – that’s more than 3,200 people moving every day.

And now the experts at LOVESPACE have explained how to make moving as smooth and stress-free as possible.

They suggest getting organized early with a confirmed moving date and notifying landlords, utilities and other vendors as soon as possible.

Dealing with packing is another must-have with decluttering, booking moves and researching storage options all on the checklist for homeowners.

A LOVESPACE spokesperson said: “Moving is stressful. There’s so much to think about and do, it can be hard to know where to start.

“Our checklist will help take some of that stress away. It’s all about being organized and making sure things are sorted well in advance.

Here is the LOVESPACE guide to moving:

It may seem obvious, but be clear about when you will be moving. If you are a tenant, let your landlord know when you are moving out.

You must inform your energy and water, telephone and broadband providers and your local council when you move. In some cases, this may simply mean moving payments and services already set up to a new address.

Leaving the move to the professionals is much easier than trying to do it yourself. Book your moving company well in advance.

Before you start packing, declutter. There’s no point in carrying things with you that you don’t need or want. If the items are in good condition, sell them or donate them to charity.

Get some massive boxes and start packing. Label all boxes so you know where everything is and to help organize your new home.

You need to let people know you have moved. Friends and family will be at the top of the list, but also inform insurers, banks, mobile operators, subscription services, your employer, your GP and your dentist. Make a list and go through it.

If you have something delivered, like milk, cancel it. These little things easily go unnoticed when you move house.

Don’t forget to register to vote when you move. It’s a quick job that one person can do.

If you have children, make sure they are taken care of on moving day. Same with pets.

Before moving, clean the property you are moving well and leave a checklist for the new owners.

Pack a box with the essentials you’ll need on the day of and a few days after the move. LOVESPACE offers a UK-wide moving service with convenient online booking and upfront pricing. This is in addition to its storage with collection and delivery service which can help renters and homeowners make the most of their space at home.
