What the national average house price will get you in North Staffordshire

Latest figures have revealed that the average house price in the UK has reached an all-time high of over £280,000. The Halifax House Price Index for March 2022, which was released this week, shows house prices were 11 per cent higher than the same month a year ago – with an average at UK scale of £282,753.

The figures also showed that March saw the biggest increase in six months, a growth of 1.4%. Average house prices rose by £43,577 two years after the first lockdown, taking the national average from £239,176 in March 2020 to £282,753 in March 2022.

Halifax chief executive Russell Galley said: “The story behind such house price inflation remains unchanged: limited supply and strong demand, despite the prospect of mounting pressure on household finances. Although there is recent evidence of more homes on the market, the fundamental problem remains that too many buyers are looking for too few properties.
